💌✨ Here we see Becky writing cards in her office on break, with cards she personalized herself. ✍️💛
Today, we are highlighting Becky, a card-decorator & card-writing volunteer with Sent With Love. 💌🌟
Q: How does it make you feel knowing your card reaches a Warrior Kid?
A: “I absolutely love it. I hope that I am making someone smile or laugh.” 😊💕
Q: Can you share one small moment—like a specific card you wrote —that truly made you feel like you were making a difference?
A: “I can’t think of one in particular because I’m trying to make every one of them different.
I guess one — the parents. There was one family I sent cards to. I got special stickers for them, and I even made them hot pads. The dad really liked golf ⛳ and the mom liked to cook 🍳, so I included those types of stickers.
I went to the store and purchased specific sports-related cards for him. I love it when they tell me they love a sport — that’s easy. I don’t have a lot of money, but I can give time and writing. 💌
The very first time I ever wrote cards, I asked how much it cost to ship because I wanted to include things but didn’t want to add to the expense. I showed the hot pads and asked if they could go in. Jennifer said it was great — anything light.
If I can sew something or make something that’s light, I can include it. You tell me somebody’s a Browns fan 🏈, I’m going to have Browns stuff ready. Jennifer told me that a Warrior Kid liked Natalie Brady & The Nite Owls 🦉, so when I found stickers with owls and sloths 🦥, I picked them up and gave them to her.
Anything I can do so somebody thinks someone took extra time on the other side — that’s it.” 💛✨
Q: What is something that surprised you in volunteering with Sent With Love?
A: “I didn’t realize that some children passed away. I assumed they all got better. That messed me up a little bit. I was writing a card to parents, and a warrior kid passed the same day I wrote it. That stays with you.” 🕊️🤍
Q: If you could put one piece of encouragement or a fun, quick piece of advice on a card for a Warrior Kid, what would it be?
A: “Keep smiling, stay happy, stay positive, keep doing what you love, and smiling. If they had a hobby like journaling 📓, I would write and encourage them to ‘please keep doing journaling — it will help you through your whole life.’” ✨😊
Q: What inspired you to start volunteering with Sent With Love, and what is your favorite way to contribute?
A: “I was looking for something to commit my time to. I had applied to Big Brothers Big Sisters, and after multiple interviews and a year later, I still had no response. As soon as I saw the news article in the Daytona Beach News Journal about Sent With Love and I got to attend a card-writing day, I knew I wanted to do it.
I love making cards. My family — my adult nieces are sick of me sending pictures of them when they were 2 years old 😂 — and now I can share the love with others.” 💌💛
Q: What’s a fun fact about you that people might not know, and what keeps you motivated to keep spreading joy through your efforts?
A: “The thought that there’s a family suffering. If I can fulfill a need, I want to. I can’t imagine what they’re going through.” 🤍✨
Thank you, Becky! You are amazing! 🤩
It's great to spend time with you and see what you create! ☺️
