Today, we are highlighting Geralyn McGuire-Dicey, who is our Gratitude Coordinator.
SWL: What is your favorite part of writing cards for Sent With Love? 💌
Geralyn: I just think this is a great 501(c)(3). I have a friend who was ill and didn’t do well, so it’s close to my heart to give back, just to write my feelings. 💛
SWL: You have some experience with illness from a friend, and it carried over to Sent With Love.
Geralyn: Yes, when I met JR at the club last year, I finally got to know her and she was telling me about the organization. I knew I wanted to do something, and I became involved. Money-wise, I can donate a little, not a tremendous amount. But I can really donate my time. I like giving back. I feel like I have been blessed in my life. I work with other nonprofits. 🤝 My friend from Ukraine, Natalya, and I have been doing fundraisers. We were able to donate to three organizations, including Sent With Love, from the Sip & Shop event. We were able to give back in that way. I do a lot of things.
SWL: You're not just interested in helping Sent With Love by writing cards—you’re out in the community making a positive impact. It sounds like you have a really big heart to serve and give back! You're quite the organizer, keeping busy. 💛
Geralyn: I love doing that. I feel like I’ve been lucky in life, and this is a way I can return favors. ✨
SWL: What is one small moment that made you feel like you were contributing to something meaningful?
Geralyn: Just today—this is going to make me cry again. A little girl, Jenna, who lived here in Port Orange, passed away the day before Christmas. And I wrote to her parents. 🤍
SWL: And it hits close to home, so it feels more personal and tangible. What is something you would write to a Warrior Kid?
Geralyn: I have a very strong faith in God, and I try to incorporate encouragement in my cards. “You’re in my thoughts and prayers.” 🙏
SWL: It's such a big part of your life that you want to include that when you write.
Geralyn: I don’t want to be too pushy, because you don’t know other people’s thoughts and feelings. I like saying, this is my belief, and I believe in prayer. You’re in my thoughts and prayers. 💛
SWL: What is a fun fact about you? What keeps you motivated?
Geralyn: I wear my heart on my sleeve. Those who know me know me, and I say what I think and feel. I don’t hold back. 😊
SWL: You’re just pretty comfortable being yourself.
Geralyn: Yes, and I think what keeps me motivated is just because I have a strong belief in what Jennifer has created, and I just think giving hope and love to people going through struggles—I know it helps me if I have a hard time. ✨
SWL: So you see the impact that you're having, that even if you don't interact with the person, you're making a difference, and you want to continue.
Geralyn: This place makes me cry a lot. I’m a baby. I can’t help it. 🥹
SWL: Well, they’re heavy topics. The pain and suffering that each person carries can seep into your soul —you just care so much.
Geralyn: Especially when it’s little kids. 💛
Thank you, Geralyn, for your consistent contributions to Sent With Love! You are a blessing! 😘
